How it works

Point, void, done. The phone does the measuring.

The UroFlo app uses the phone's camera to track the urine stream in real time and calculate flow rate. It produces the same flow curve and measurements as standard uroflowmetry.

No new hardware

Runs on the patient's own smartphone. No flowmeter, no commode, no kit to ship or recover.

At home, discreetly

Patients void naturally in private, at the times their symptoms actually happen.

No audio or video leaves the device

Flow is computed on the phone. Only the flow data is sent — never images or sound.

Securely shared with care teams

Encrypted results reach the clinician's dashboard straight away, ready for review.

    The patient opens UroFlo. Nothing to book, collect or return — it runs on the phone they already own.

Results that match standard uroflowmetry

UroFlo has been tested in a series of clinical studies in NHS Scotland, with funding from Scotland's Chief Scientist Office. The results match standard weight-based uroflowmetry for both normal and interrupted flow patterns.

  • 150-patient multi-centre trial

    Run across NHS Lothian and NHS Grampian, it showed UroFlo is as good as the clinical gold standard.

  • 29 of 30 identical diagnoses

    In the first NHS Lothian study, two urologists reviewing results independently reached the same diagnosis.

  • Real-world use in NHS Tayside

    UroFlo is now in use at Ninewells Hospital and a Forfar GP practice.
